Retreats

Every student is required to make a retreat that is organized through Saint Joseph Academy. Different types of retreats are offered at each grade level.

Freshman Retreat: During the first quarter, the Freshman class experiences its first high school group retreat. The theme for the day is "Mission: Possible." There will be breakout sessions for the majority of the day dealing with finding your mission within three main topics: your personal mission, your spiritual mission and your class/school mission. One focus will be simplifying life in order to discover your talents and gifts, and listening to what God is calling you to do and be during your time at Saint Joseph Academy. This retreat is led by a student team of juniors and seniors.

Sophomore Retreat: The theme for this retreat is "Living as a Disciple of Christ.” Throughout the day, students will engage in activities to help them reflect on their life, their relationship with God, and how they can put their faith into action. Students will attend this retreat with their Theology class. This retreat is led by a student team of juniors and seniors.

Junior Retreats:

Junior Overnight Retreat Option: The Kairos Retreat is a three-day, two-night retreat directed by a student and adult team from SJA. On this retreat, you reflect on who you are and who is God in your life. Through activities, witnesses, small group discussions and reflection, you learn about yourself and your relationships with God and others. This retreat is led by a student team of seniors who made a Kairos retreat as juniors.

Junior Day Retreat: Juniors who choose not to make a Kairos retreat will make a day retreat. The theme for this retreat is similar to the Kairos retreat but is presented in one school day. This retreat is led by a student team of juniors who have made a Kairos retreat during this school year.

Senior Retreats: The retreats for senior year are planned and facilitated by a senior retreat planning committee. There will be one-day retreat and one overnight retreat option offered each semester. Seniors must attend at least one. Seniors who lead a Kairos retreat may count that as their required senior retreat experience.

Senior Overnight Retreat Options

  • The Fourth Day Retreat is an overnight retreat for students who made the Kairos retreat during their junior year. This retreat may be directed by a team of seniors or Kairos alums from SJA and adults. Retreatants will reflect on how they "Live the Fourth” in their life. Through activities, witnesses, small group discussions and time for reflection, each retreatant will reaffirm her commitment to know herself and nurture her relationships with God and others.
  • The Searching for Your Mission Retreat is an overnight retreat option for all seniors. This retreat is an opportunity for seniors to search for and reflect on their mission in life. Based on the mission of the Congregation of Saint Joseph, the mission of Saint Joseph Academy, and the senior theology curriculum, this retreat will give students an opportunity to discern how they may best put their faith into action.

Senior Day Retreat: The Senior Day retreat will be held at River’s Edge. Similar to the Mission retreat, this day-long retreat will focus on the CSJ mission, the SJA mission and how these relate to your personal life mission. This retreat will be led by a team of seniors.

Each student is required to make a yearly retreat with her class. If a student is absent on retreat day, she must make up the retreat.
