How Do I Apply? (For Parents)

Give yourself plenty of time to make a well-informed decision about the school that is right for you.  Start exploring your options early and visit often; making multiple visits to a school will help you get a better understanding of its students, faculty and programs.  Be sure to ask a lot of questions, especially to the students and keep detailed notes about what you liked.

Find out why Saint Joseph Academy is the right choice for you!  Two things that make us unique are the all-girls environment and our college block scheduling.  In an all-girls school, you are encouraged to explore and develop your abilities, talents, and interests without any distractions.  We guarantee a commitment to a learning environment that places girls first and foremost and our faculty and staff have an in-depth understanding of how girls learn and succeed.  This does not mean that girls cannot compete in a co-ed world or that a healthy social life is not important.  It does mean that a young woman can find her own academic and personal strengths in her own way, in her own time, and in her own place.  (See recent article from the UCLA Newsroom titled "Grads of all-girls schools show stronger academic orientations than coed grads" from December 2009.)  At Saint Joseph Academy, girls not only have equal opportunity, but every opportunity!

ADMISSIONS POLICY AND PROCEDURES
Saint Joseph Academy has an open admissions policy.  Students of any race, religion, color, nationality, and ethnic origin are admitted and accorded all rights, privileges, programs, and activities through the Academy admissions policies, scholarships, athletics, and other school-administered programs.

All applicants are reviewed on past school achievement, behavioral and academic records, standardized test scores, and the applicant’s desire to attend Saint Joseph Academy.  Applicant’s official records are reviewed and evaluated by the Academy Admissions Committee.  A personal interview is required prior to acceptance.  The student and her parent(s) or guardian(s) will be contacted to set up an appointment with members of the Admissions Committee.

8th grade applicants:

Any 8th grade student that applies to Saint Joseph Academy MUST take the placement test and registration is required.  Refer to Placement Testing for important information on this test.

8th Grade Applicants from Catholic Elementary Schools:

Students currently attending Catholic elementary schools follow the regular Diocesan policy:

  1. Application forms will be distributed on January 10, 2011 by the eighth grade teachers.
  2. Those interested in Saint Joseph Academy indicate SJA as their first choice on this form.
  3. These forms, together with the student’s records, are forwarded to the Saint Joseph Academy Admissions Office by the applicant’s school.
  4. The Academy Admissions Committee reviews all applications to decide which students meet the Academy’s admissions criteria.
  5. A letter of acceptance will be sent on February 10, 2011 in accordance with the timeline of the Office of Catholic Education.

8th Grade Applicants from Public and Private Elementary Schools:

Students from public and non-Catholic private schools are asked to contact the Admissions Director for an application and information or download an Application for Admission.

Following application, the student is reviewed using the same criteria as stated above.

If acceptance of a particular student is in question, her elementary school may be contacted for a recommendation prior to the final decision.

If a student is not accepted, she will receive a letter stating this decision and her records will be forwarded to her second choice school by February 10, 2011.

Other Applicants:

Applicants to Saint Joseph Academy for any other grade should follow the procedure for above mentioned applicants from public and private schools.
