Saint Joseph Academy Students Win 17 Awards

in the 2011- 2012 Scholastic Art & Writing Competition

Cleveland, OH -- Twelve Saint Joseph Academy (SJA) students won an amazing 17 awards -- two Gold Keys, four Silver Keys and 11 Honorable Mentions -- at the 2012 Scholastic Art & Writing Competition held Saturday, January 7, at The Cleveland Institute of Art.

Natalie Bittel ’13 and Elizabeth Wise ’12 each earned a Gold Key, the highest Scholastic Art award. Natalie’s winning artwork was in the printmaking category and was titled "What Lies Underneath.” Elizabeth’s Gold Key-winning printmaking artwork (she also earned an honorable mention with another piece) was called "Senora.” Both Natalie and Elizabeth will compete with their winning artwork on the national level in New York City in June 2012.

All the art from the competition is on exhibit through Saturday, February 4, at The Cleveland Institute of Art Reinberger Galleries (open daily, except January 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), 11141 East Blvd., Cleveland. Visit The Cleveland Institute of Art Continuing Education site to see a full listing of the 2011-2012 Cuyahoga County Awards.

The competition recognizes creative achievement of Cuyahoga County students in grades 7-12. A panel of local artists, educators and writers selected the winning pieces. Only Portfolio and Gold Key winners continue to the national competition in New York City.
