Preparing for Success in High School and Beyond

Our counselors assist and advocate for students to ensure their success. The School and College Counseling Departments have extensive programs and resources for students helping them transition from middle school to high school, throughout their high school career, into college and beyond.

School Counseling

Guided by the charism of the Congregation of St Joseph's commitment to unifying relationships, the mission of the School Counseling Program is to support the spiritual, academic, social and emotional development of each student. In particular, school counselors foster the development of each student's commitment to personal integrity, service to the dear neighbor, empathetic justice and wisdom.

The School Counseling Department at Saint Joseph Academy works with the Ninth and Tenth grade classes.

College Counseling

College Counseling facilitates and supports the transition from high school to post-secondary education and/or the workforce for Juniors and Seniors. This includes academic advising, as well as guiding and supporting students and families through the college search and application process. The Department works with students as individuals to understand who they are beyond the classroom and to help them find a college that will provide a challenging, comfortable and safe environment. College Counseling is consistent with and complementary to the mission of the Congregation of St. Joseph -- it values and respects the diversity and individualism of the students and understands that their lives will take them in many directions.

Women's Leadership Symposium

Saint Joseph Academy holds an Annual Women’s Leadership Symposium. This event highlights the many options and pathways available to our students as they enter the professional world. They are able to see and hear from female role models, including many alumnae, in a variety of fields. This is important, given that women still are underrepresented in many professions.

Junior Professional Shadowing

Every year the Junior class experiences prospective careers through the Academy’s Junior Professional Shadowing Program. During this three-day program each student explores her potential career choice with a professional at a company or organization. The hands-on experience helps each student determine if that career is still of interest (or not) as she starts to narrow her college preferences.
