Million in Merit and Scholarship Awards
On May 18-20, 2020, 182 young women of unifying love officially graduated from Saint Joseph Academy. Though this year’s beloved end-of-the year traditions were disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it did not stop the class from being celebrated for their outstanding achievements. Annual traditions such as Tree Night and the Baccalaureate Mass were recorded and shared with the entire Saint Joseph Academy community so it could be viewed virtually.

To ensure each young woman had her moment to shine, each graduate was filmed while receiving her Saint Joseph Academy diploma on the altar at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, as has been the tradition for 77 years at Saint Joseph Academy. Then on May 26, the original commencement date, the stars of the Class of 2020 lit up the screens at the Aut-O-Rama Drive-In Theatre with the screening of their commencement ceremony.

We are so proud of our Class of 2020! Go forth into this world as the compassionate global leaders Saint Joseph Academy has empowered you to become. Your futures are bright and your opportunities endless!

Commencement’s Big Screen Debut

The 2020 graduates, their families and the Saint Joseph Academy community gathered in their cars to watch a private screening of the Commencement Ceremony. The video featured the welcome address by Principal Mr. Jeff Sutliff, remarks by President Mrs. Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis ’71 as the commencement speaker, scripture readings, blessing of the graduates by Joyce Joecken N’61, CSJ, student address by Sarah Scarpitti ’20 and the traditional commencement music and songs.

"We Are the Lucky Ones!"

Sarah Scarpitti shared an inspiring student address with the Class of 2020. She reminded her fellow classmates how lucky they are to have called “a place as special as Saint Joseph Academy, our happiness and our home.” She encouraged them “to venture out into the world - fearlessly” and to always move forward “even in the face of adversity, with a new appreciation of the lessons learned along the way.” Finally, Sarah expressed to her class that goodbyes are not permanent, just another way to say, “I can’t wait to see you again.”

Walk of the Roses

On Tuesday, July 14, the Class of 2020 was led down the front steps of the Academy by former President Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis '71, wearing caps and gowns, proudly carrying their bouquet of red roses. They were greeted by a socially-distanced group of faculty, staff and their most loyal fans, the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Joseph. Side-by-side and six feet apart, the Senior class donned their new white "Sursum corda" face masks and turned the corner onto Rocky River Drive, where they were cheered on by their family and friends. Upon arriving at Our Lady of Angels Church, the girls were led in prayer by Vice President of Mission Dr. Jessica Wrobleski, sang the alma mater and tossed their caps for one final celebratory moment. We are so proud of our resilient young women and know they will continue to live lives of unifying love. Congratulations, Class of 2020!

Senior Prom

Though this year was a different kind of celebration for Senior Prom, the Class of 2020 did not fail to have a beautiful evening! On July 9, 2020, with the Department of Health's guidelines in place, the girls were able to celebrate prom with each other. They took pictures on the Academy's steps and danced the night away at Windows on the River.

2019-2020 Honors Convocation

This year, the Saint Joseph Academy administration and faculty came together virtually to honor the outstanding academic and other achievements of our students and acknowledge the tenure milestones of faculty and staff in an Honors Convocation video.

Virtual Tree Night and Baccalaureate Mass 2020

Following social distancing guidelines provided by the Ohio Departments of Health and Education, the beloved Tree Night and Baccalaureate Mass was also able to be celebrated. The event was filmed so it could be viewed virtually. The Class of 2020's Leadership Team and members of The Academy Chorale were present to participate in this annual tradition.
