  • Crew Information

    • Saint Joseph Academy offers Summer Programs for girls entering grades 7-9. These are great opportunities for incoming Freshmen to try the sport and meet future teammates!
    • All rowers at SJA and around the county start competitive rowing in high school. At most, a new rower (novice) will have tried a few days of summer camp when she begins the competitive high school season.
      • This levels the playing field for all first-year (novice) athletes and rewards those athletes who show up, have a positive attitude, and work hard.
    • First-year athletes have their own race categories (Novice and Freshman) which also allows for the new athletes to develop.
    • SJA also competes at the JV and Varsity level crews starting Sophomore year.
    • Spring 2021, the team had 52 athletes:
      • 20 Novice
      • 32 Varsity
    • In 2021, the Team finished 2nd in Overall Women's Team Points at the Midwest Regional Championship Regatta (No state of Ohio Championship). In years past, the team has finished within the top 10 nationally.
    • Much like Cross Country and Track, Crew has two independently run seasons: Fall (head races) and Spring (sprint races).
      • Fall Crew Season: August - October
      • Spring Crew Season: January - May
    • The spring season is longer and features our regional and national championship regattas. In a typical season, Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels crews have qualified for the National Championship Regatta.
