This course is being offered to girls who will be enrolled as eighth graders in elementary schools during the 2018-2019 school year. Students will be experiencing a high school level class for the 2018-2019 academic year in Honors Algebra I, and upon successful completion, will receive one high school credit in mathematics which should transfer to any high school. The course is intended to accelerate eighth grade students who are talented in mathematics, so that they have the opportunity to take five full years of mathematics in high school.
Qualifications: The Honors Algebra I course is an honors high school course; therefore, we recommend that parents and students consider carefully the points below. The course is designed for:
- Students who have maintained an A or high B in grade school math
- Students who achieved at least 85th percentile in math on standardized tests
- Students who are highly motivated
- Students who have the ability to work independently
- Students who have excellent attendance records
Once enrolled in the class, a student in the Honors Algebra I course should maintain an A or B grade point average.
Credit: Because this course complies with section 3313.603G of the Ohio Revised Code, we are able to award high school credit to those students who successfully complete the course. This credit should be accepted by any high school and should enable the student to begin her second year of high school mathematics as a ninth grader. However, the decision to grant high school credit for the class from schools other than Saint Joseph Academy will depend on the policies of those schools. In addition, all students are required to take the Ohio Department of Education Algebra I state test at the end of the course.
