Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach

Saint Joseph Academy is conducting a search for the head of its girls’ basketball program.
The ideal candidate is:

  • An excellent communicator who is detailed, organized and can handle the various administrative responsibilities that come along with directing the entire basketball program
  • Someone passionate about the sport of basketball and about this position at SJA
  • Someone who will provide energetic and positive coaching and put SJA student-athletes in the best position to be successful both on and off the court
  • A believer in the importance and value of education-based athletics
Requirements
  • Previous high school coaching experience
All applicants must have (or be able to quickly obtain) the following certifications:
  • Pupil Activity Permit
  • Lindsay’s Law
  • Virtus Certification
  • Fingerprints/Background check through Saint Joseph Academy
Head Coach Responsibilities 
  • To communicate effectively with the stakeholders of the program throughout the year
  • To assist in maintaining high academic standards for all student athletes
  • To assist the athletic director in the hiring and retention of assistant coaches
  • To direct, supervise, and evaluate regularly the performance of the assistant coaches
  • To direct the training, conditioning, and performance of the basketball team and to lead, supervise, and assist the assistant coaches in their efforts with the teams assigned to them
  • To create a positive and inclusive culture within the entire program, including the JV and freshman programs, by encouraging and supporting all members of the basketball program
  • To communicate in a positive and productive manner with student-athletes, parents, and school administration
  • Attend CYO games throughout the basketball season
  • To act as a positive influence upon the members of the staff and team
  • To implement necessary off-season activities for the team (i.e. shootouts, camps, individual trainings, etc.)
  • To be present and personally direct the team at all varsity contests and to be present and involved at as many JV and freshman games as possible
  • To help plan, support, and implement fundraising efforts for the program, in coordination with parent volunteers
  • To foster among the participants and supporters an appreciation of the value of athletics, a desire to win, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school and community
  • Host and direct a Saint Joseph Academy youth summer basketball camp
  • To work cooperatively with other head athletic coaches in order to operate a well-balanced athletic program
  • To advise the athletic director as to the preparation of schedules for the season along with needs for equipment, facilities, maintenance, etc.
  • Work with athletic director to ensure compliance with OHSAA and North Coast League requirements
  • To assist the athletic director to ensure that lists of all players eligible for athletic competition have been prepared and maintained under the guidelines of SJA and OHSAA
  • Attend NCL meetings, when necessary
  • To be an active member in Ohio basketball coaching associations and take part in postseason meetings and voting/award opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned
