Aurora Laux ’17 "Best in Merit Scholar" Award at Cleveland State University (CSU) Senior Show

Aurora Laux ’17, a senior art major at Cleveland State University (CSU) has recently received the ”Best in Merit Scholar” award at the Merit Scholar Exhibition.
Having a visual disability called Achromatopsia, a condition characterized by a partial or total absence of color vision has not stopped Aurora from creating artwork. Aurora has a beautiful outlook regarding her art-making, “What I'm seeing will never be the same as what someone else sees, so I think that's really exciting that there is a bit of mystery even when I'm making something.”

The Merit Scholar Exhibition in the North Gallery features work by Aurora Laux (sister of Ashley Laux ’13 and Amber Laux ’15) along with seven other recipients of the CSU Art Department Merit Scholarships.

Upon receiving an invite from Aurora, Saint Joseph Academy Visual Arts teacher and Department Chair Mrs. Tammy Sparks attended the show, “It was awesome seeing the growth and development in her work.”

Her selection of works entitled Constello and the Infolk is on display at The Galleries at CSU. For more information click here. To watch a video of Aurora telling her story, click here.
