Under Your Umbrella: Wedding of Lauren Kluth '09 Includes Tribute to Classmate

It was a special day in many ways as Lauren Kluth ’09 married Liam O’Brien on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Not only did they have several alumnae in the bridal party, but together they remembered one of their beloved classmates, Dana Care ’09.
Bridesmaid, friend and classmate Maura Jamieson ’09 shared “When we were sophomores Dana was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. During "Paws for Pride" that year our class showed our support for Dana by singing the song “Umbrella” by Rihanna while the class put umbrellas over Dana’s head. We continued to use the umbrella as a symbol of our support for Dana and her battle against cancer. Dana passed away during our senior year. As we were rounding out our senior year, our class leaders decided a fitting class gift would be to purchase white umbrellas for Saint Joseph Academy, that could be used in the event of rain during the Walk of Roses.”

Fast forward 13 years to Lauren's wedding day at which her bridesmaids from the Class of 2009, including Maura Jamieson, Lauren Kluth Wunderle and Campbell McNeeley Scaggs, surprised her with the white umbrellas that had been purchased in memory of Dana Care. They say rain on your wedding day is good luck, but for Lauren and her Saint Joseph Academy sisters, it was a sign from Dana that she is still with them.
