"Walk of the Roses" and 2023 Commencement

On Tuesday, the Class of 2023 took part in one of the Academy’s most beloved traditions, the “Walk of the Roses.”
The class processed down the steps of the Academy building towards Rocky River Drive. The Saint Joseph Academy and West Park communities lined the street, clapping and celebrating the class as they walked to Our Lady of Angels Church.

Commencement opened with the singing of the alma mater and a Welcome Address from Principal Mr. Jeff Sutliff followed by a scripture reading from Valedictorian and National Merit Finalist Alicia Blouch ’23. Board of Directors' Member Ms. Margaret Sweeney ’03 provided this year's Commencement speech.

Class Moderators Ms. Ali Conkey and Ms. Maggie Flannery who have helped guide the Class of 2023 over their past four years read the names of the graduates as they received their diplomas from President Mrs. Kathryn Purcell and shook hands with Principal Mr. Jeff Sutliff.

Student Speaker Ella "El" Healey shared, "We are on the verge of an incredible transition full of opportunities. It may be intimidating but do not ignore it. Try the things you have wondered about, keep learning, remember to laugh, and never stop loving each other. Sister Juanita has gifted us with a self-fulfilling prophecy. We will be the generation that gets it right as long as we believe we are. After all, “God is good all the time, and all the time God is good." Each time El spoke "God is good all the time, and all the time God is good," the entire class recited the words as one, unifying voice.

The class sang "Joseph, Father" before Sr. Karen Kirby, CSJ bestowed the Final Blessing upon the class. As is the tradition at the Academy, the evening closed with the graduates singing “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” to each other.

Congratulations, Class of 2023, we are so proud of what you accomplished together and wish you the best of luck!
