Honoring Excellence in Athletics
The Saint Joseph Academy Athletic Hall of Fame, a bi-annual event, was created to recognize the contributions of individuals instrumental in the growth and excellence of the athletic traditions and standards of Saint Joseph Academy Athletics.

2016 National Champion Rugby Team
Rugby was introduced as a club sport at Saint Joseph Academy in Spring 2007. The program was granted Varsity/Junior Varsity status in only two years—2009—and clinched the Single-School National Girls Rugby Championship in 2016—the first-ever National title won by a Jaguar sports team.
The odds were against the 2016 team from the get-go. The nail-biting championship series included three come-from-behind victories for the Jaguars, including a semi-final game against Divine Savior, Saint Joseph Academy’s Midwest archnemesis from Wisconsin that they had never before beaten—until that weekend. The team played with everything they had, unfailingly supporting one another and steadfast in their belief that they could win. The coaches believed in this team. This team believed in each other. If there was one key lesson in all of this, it was that heart can overcome experience.
Nikole Carpenter Guthrie ’11
Nikole (“Nikki”) was a multi-sport athlete at Saint Joseph Academy. She competed in Softball, Basketball and Volleyball and served as the captain of the Freshman Volleyball team as well as captain of the Softball team for three years and the Basketball team for two years. She finished her high school athletic career as a four-year Varsity letter winner in Softball and also earned multiple Varsity letters in Basketball and Volleyball.
She is one of the most accomplished Softball players in Academy history. She holds the all-time highest career batting average at .500 and the highest single-season batting average at .569. Other highlights include 40 stolen bases in a single season—a record she held for eight years—and a single-season record of six triples.
Brittany Morrison ’15
Brittany is being inducted for her excellence in Basketball and Track & Field. She played Basketball all four years at Saint Joseph Academy—JV/Varsity as a Freshman and Varsity from Sophomore through Senior years. She served as team captain during her Junior and Senior years. She was named Co-MVP as a Freshman and Team MVP the next three years, helping the Jaguars to a 15-8 record her Senior year. She earned a Varsity letter as a Sophomore. Other accolades Brittany earned during high school included being named a “Stahlheber’s Player of the Game” honoree at the Adidas Stark County Hoopfest Showcase her Junior year. Her Senior year, she was named Most Valuable Player at the Walsh Jesuit Girls Holiday Tournament and she was also named a Greater Cleveland Basketball Coaches Association “All-Star.”
Dr. Beth Boscarelli Welch ’00 DNP, MSN, NE-BC
Beth played Varsity Volleyball all four years at Saint Joseph Academy. She earned an Honorable Mention spot on the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association (OHSVCA) and All-Ohio Division 1 Team as a Junior, recognizing her as one of the top 40 players in the state. Beth served as the Team Captain her Senior year. She was also a recipient of the Academy’s Don Kostell Award for Excellence in Athletics in 2000. This honor celebrates Senior student-athletes for exceptional athletic performance and sportsmanship.
She capped off a notable high school athletic career with four Varsity letters and a full Volleyball scholarship to Youngstown State University where she was the Volleyball Team Captain her Junior and Senior years.
