Make a Lasting Impact

Every gift to Saint Joseph Academy is important – no matter the size or amount. We are truly humbled and grateful for your support, and invite you to contact us if you have any questions or would like to schedule a visit and tour.
In 1890, the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Joseph had the vision to open an all-girls school to serve the young women of Cleveland, inspiring them to become compassionate global leaders through a quality education deeply-rooted in the Catholic tradition. We honor the visionary leadership of the Congregation by partnering with dedicated alumnae, families and friends to secure the financial resources necessary for tuition assistance, operating and educational expenses and capital improvements.

Ways to Give

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is the Academy’s annual fundraising campaign that provides unrestricted funds, allowing us to fully live our mission and achieve our vision. Additionally, this fund helps close the $1,545 per student gap between tuition and the actual cost to educate each Saint Joseph Academy student.

Endowed Scholarships

Saint Joseph Academy offers donors two ways to provide deserving young women with the gift of a Saint Joseph Academy education – Named Endowed Scholarships and the Saint Joseph Academy Scholarship Fund. All scholarship gifts are invested in the Saint Joseph Academy Scholarship Endowment Fund. Donations may be added to the principal of the scholarship at any time thereby increasing the amount of the awards that can be provided. There are also opportunities for Named Endowed Scholarship donors to meet their scholars through annual events.

More than 75% of Saint Joseph Academy students are receiving financial assistance amounting to more than $2,200,000. The need for tuition assistance will continue to grow as we continue to serve the needs of our socioeconomically diverse student body.

Named Endowed Scholarships

Named Endowed Scholarships are the perfect gift and a lasting way to honor a loved one, to commemorate a special occasion or celebrate a birthday, holiday, or your commitment to the transformational power of a Saint Joseph Academy education. Scholarship funds are endowments that provide an ongoing source of support and enable you to experience the impact of your philanthropy.
  • The fund will be held and managed with the pooled assets of Saint Joseph Academy’s Endowment Fund.
  • The principal of the fund must reach a minimum of $15,000 before earnings are distributed.
  • It can be funded with a single gift or the designated gifts of your family and friends over a period of five years.
  • Once established, the named donor(s) will be invited to special events to meet the students who are benefiting from their generosity.
  • The fund will be listed annually in the Advancement Review, along with additional annual contributors.
  • Future contributions can be designated to the fund, allowing the principal balance to grow.

Saint Joseph Academy Endowed Scholarship Fund

The general Endowed Scholarship fund provides a large group of young women in the Cleveland area the opportunity to have a quality, Catholic high school education rooted in the Congregation of St. Joseph tradition. Gifts designated to the Endowed Scholarship Fund help expand our efforts to share the Saint Joseph Academy experience with families who share your values and want to provide their daughter with a quality, faith-filled education.

A Gift For You and Your Future

Other Ways to Support Saint Joseph Academy

List of 8 items.

  • Employee Matching Gifts

Many corporations match their employees’ gifts to the school of their choice. It is simple: Check the Human Resources website for your company - many have forms right there. Send the matching gift form along with your gift to Saint Joseph Academy. We will process the form and contact you when the gift is received.
  • Recurring Monthly Donations

Recurring gifts are a great way to fit annual giving into your budget and allow you to break a larger gift down into more manageable monthly amounts. When you set up a recurring gift to the Annual Fund, we will charge a monthly donation, in any amount you choose, for as many months as you specify.
    • Automatic monthly donation from your credit card or checking account
    • Complete statement provided for tax purposes in January
    • You can cancel at any time
To make a recurring gift using your credit card, visit our secure web portal by visiting our Donate Today page, selecting the "Recurring" in the Payment Options section and choosing the amount and duration of your monthly gift.

To set up monthly ACH transfers from your checking account, please contact Stewardship Coordinator Donna Corrigan Ernst ‘80, P’14 at 216.251.6788 ext. 263.
  • Appreciated Securities/Stock

An alternative to cash is a gift of appreciated securities/stock, which can provide increased tax benefits over an equivalent gift of cash, especially when the appreciated securities have been held for more than one year. If you are interested in this giving option, contact Vice President of Institutional Advancement Constance Sipple, CFRE, at 216.671.0166 or click here to learn more about the transfer instructions.
  • IRA Charitable Rollover

IRA Charitable Rollover Now Permanent: In 2015, Congress enacted a permanent extension of the IRA charitable rollover. As a result, this law no longer has an expiration date so you are free to make annual gifts to Saint Joseph Academy from your IRA this year and well into the future.
The recently reinstated law allows individuals 70½ and older the ability to transfer up to $100,000 from their individual retirement accounts directly to Saint Joseph Academy or other qualified charitable organizations without being subject to income taxes on the distribution.
    Here are the Details:
    • You are age 70½ or older at the time of the gift.
    • You transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA. This opportunity applies only to IRAs and no other types of retirement plans.
    • You transfer the funds outright to one or more qualified charities. The legislation does not permit direct transfers to charitable trusts, donor advised funds, charitable gift annuities or supporting organizations.
    Here are the Benefits:
    • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to Saint Joseph Academy
    • Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
    • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
    • Make a gift that is not subject to the 50% deduction limits on charitable gifts
    • Help further the work and mission of Saint Joseph Academy
    Here is how it Works:
    1. Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to us.
    2. Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to Saint Joseph Academy.
    3. Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction.
    4. Please contact us to inform us of your gift and how you would like it to be used.
Here are some frequently asked questions:
    Q. What information do I need to give my IRA administrator?
    A.  Most often, you will be asked for Saint Joseph Academy’s mailing address and tax identification number:
Saint Joseph Academy, 3740 Rocky River Drive, Cleveland OH 44011
    Q. I've already named your organization as the beneficiary of my IRA. What are the benefits if I make a gift now instead of after my lifetime?
    A. By making a gift this year of up to $100,000 from your IRA, you can see your philanthropic dollars at work. You are jumpstarting the legacy you would like to leave and giving yourself the joy of watching your philanthropy take shape. Moreover, you can fulfill any outstanding pledge you may have already made by transferring that amount from your IRA under this legislation as long as it is $100,000 or less for the year.
    Q. I'm turning age 70½ in a few months. Can I make this gift now?
    A. No. The legislation requires you to reach age 70½ by the date you make the gift.
    Q. I have several retirement accounts — some are pensions and some are IRAs. Does it matter which retirement account I use?
    A. Yes. Direct rollovers to a qualified charity can only be made from an IRA. Under certain circumstances, however, you may be able to roll assets from a pension, profit sharing, 401(k) or 403(b) plan into an IRA and then make the transfer from the IRA directly to Saint Joseph Academy. To determine if a rollover to an IRA is available for your plan, speak with your plan administrator.
    Q. Can my gift be used as my minimum required distribution under the law?
    A. Yes, absolutely. If you have not yet taken your required minimum distribution, the charitable IRA rollover gift can satisfy all or part of that requirement. Contact your IRA custodian to complete the gift.
    Q. Do I need to give my entire IRA to be eligible for the tax benefits?
    A. No. You can give any amount under this provision, as long as it is $100,000 or less this year. If your IRA is valued at more than $100,000, you can transfer a portion of it to fund a charitable gift.
    Q. I have two charities I want to support. Can I give $100,000 from my IRA to each?
    A. No. Under the law, you can give a maximum of $100,000. For example, you can give each organization $50,000 this year or any other combination that totals $100,000 or less. Any amount of more than $100,000 in one year must be reported as taxable income.
    Q. My spouse and I would like to give more than $100,000. How can we do that?
    A. If you have a spouse (as defined by the IRS) who is 70½ or older and has an IRA, he or she can also give up to $100,000 from his or her IRA.
It is wise to consult with your tax professionals if you are contemplating a charitable gift under the extended law. For additional information, please contact Ms. Constance Sipple at 216.671.0166 or
