Sophia Payamgis ’26

Accomplishments: Sophia is one of seven Seniors named a Commended Scholar through the National Merit® Scholarship Program.
“I am honored to be named a Commended Scholar,” Sophia shared. “To me, it is recognition of the hard work I have put into school as a whole.” Sophia’s favorite school subject is English, but has really enjoyed the Engineering classes at SJA.
 
“All of my teachers have had a substantial impact on how I view the world and my role in it,” Sophia shared. “From pushing me to develop my unique voice to sparking a love for engineering, each of my teachers has shaped a part of who I am today.” 
 
In addition to receiving national recognition for her academic achievements, Sophia was also awarded the Governor's Merit Scholarship. She is one of eight Seniors at the Academy to receive this scholarship, which is a renewable scholarship to pursue higher education at colleges and universities in Ohio.

Activities and Interests: At Saint Joseph Academy, Sophia is the Editor-in-Chief of Calliope and is a member of Stage Crew and the VEX Robotics team. She also volunteers weekly as a gymnastics instructor at Sokol Greater Cleveland. 
 
What is your favorite part about being a member of the Saint Joseph Academy community?: Sophia shared the following: “My favorite part of SJA is how many unique opportunities there are. There are so many different extracurriculars to participate in, and the Engineering & Design Honors Program has given me the chance to explore my interests.”
 
Future Career Plans: Sophia plans to major in Engineering.
