Guest Speakers Bring Physics Principles to Real World Scenarios
On Thursday, Physics and Honors Physics students welcomed three guest speakers from Progressive Insurance, Jarrell McAlister P'27, Ray Mack and Mary Growth.
During class, students saw how core physics principles apply to real life by analyzing an actual automobile accident scenario. Students used physics concepts such as Newton’s Laws, friction, velocity and conservation of momentum to understand how the accident occurred. Students formed groups of four and experimented with ping pong and golf balls to understand the physics concepts. Finally, students learned about the different types of insurance coverage and how the coverage applied to the accident scenario.
Thank you to Science Teacher Mrs. Kristen Barrett and Engineering Teacher and Department Chair Mr. Bryce Ormiston for organizing this learning opportunity.
