Summer Reading Discussions Provide Deeper Understanding of Personal Integrity
The Saint Joseph Academy community gathered on Wednesday in small groups by grade level for the “Learn to Love” summer reading program discussions. Over the summer, students were given a choice of 15 books that centered around the theme of "Personal Integrity", which is one of the outcomes of a "Character of a Saint Joseph Academy Graduate.”
Personal Integrity is defined as “Valuing the wellness of body, mind and spirit, she discovers and owns her unique gifts and skills, claims her leadership ability and moves forward with confidence, courage, honesty, and initiative.”
Some of the discussion questions included:
- Which of the characters in the book display integrity and how? Which of the characters in the book fail to display integrity and how?
- What connections can you draw between the book you have read and real life? Think of personal experiences or situations on the local or global level.
- How have you demonstrated integrity in the past? What were you feeling at the time? What caused you to make the decisions you did? How did your actions affect you and others?
