Olivia Barnette '27
Accomplishments: Olivia attended the American Legion Auxiliary’s Buckeye Girls State program over the summer to grow her leadership skills. Olivia was one of over 500 young women to attend the leadership and civics program held at Bowling Green State University.
Olivia applied to the program because she wanted to learn more about law, government and leadership. “I wanted to participate in this program because I believe that becoming a leader is very important,” Olivia shared. “...I came to realize that we are the future generation and making a difference in the world is something that is meaningful to me.”
As part of the program, Olivia learned about city, county and state government. Olivia shared the following about the program: “One of my favorite experiences from Buckeye Girls State was serving as the Director of Public Safety. During the program, every participant went through the election and voting process to receive a role, and this position became my role for the week. As the Director of Public Safety I was in charge of making the City Book for Zeller City, which had about 50 girls in it. My job was to ensure everyone understood the laws, proclamations, tax system, awards and policies.”
Activities at the Academy: Olivia is a member of Community Builders and the Track & Field team.
What is your favorite part about being a member of the Saint Joseph Academy community?: Olivia shared the following, “My favorite part about being a member of the Saint Joseph Academy community is being able to be open-minded about the people around me. I have talked to so many people with different backgrounds and it opened my eyes to realize that everyone in our community is unique in their own way and that is such a beautiful thing. Coming to Saint Joseph Academy taught me that just because each individual is different doesn't mean we can't learn from each other.”
Future Career Plans: Olivia plans to major in Behavioral Forensics with the goal of working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
