Wellness
The Wellness Curriculum promotes health and well-being through education and initiatives. Habits of wellness are encouraged and awareness of factors and resources that contribute to well-being are raised so students can identify habits of a positive lifestyle. The program helps students become inspired and empowered to take responsibility for their own health and wellness during high school and beyond.

Big Idea: Encourages students to develop and maintain positive health habits. They will learn about environmental, hereditary and behavioral factors that can affect their health. The students will learn how their choices affect their health for a lifetime. The focus will be on ways they can improve their total health – physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Alcohol, tobacco and illegal drug prevention, proper nutrition and fat control, reproduction, pregnancy and STIs, infectious and chronic diseases, organ donation, self-esteem, anxiety and mental health, family/ relationships, self-defense, and Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification will be the main topics. Students will take a Blended Learning Course through the American Red Cross CPR/First Aid, which will be conducted during the health class. There is a $13 fee for CPR/First Aid for all students taking Health class.

Requirement: $29 uniform fee
Big Idea: Regular physical activity is important throughout the student’s lifetime. This class is a fun, interactive and collaborative class that will teach students how to develop and practice healthy physical techniques/activities that can be used for a lifetime. Activities may include the following:
- Fitness training (Lifelong Fitness Project)
- Zumba
- Archery and golf
- Soccer and softball
- Basketball and volleyball
- Fitness days
Credit Earned for Physical Education (PE)Students may receive credit for PE under the guidelines set forth by the Ohio Department of Education, Section 3313.603 of the Ohio Revised Code. A student must receive approval from her counselor before pursuing credit for PE outisde of Saint Joseph Academy. To fulfill this requirement, a student must participate in interscholastic athletics, marching band or cheerleading for at least two full seasons. If credit is granted, if will appear on the Saint Joseph Academy transcript with a grade of “P” for passing. No quality points are awarded and the course is not calculated into the student’s grade point average.

Includes but is not limited to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness. Students earn a required number of credits each school year by selecting from various options within the four aspects of wellness. The curriculum encourages students to grow to make their own choices about their wellness.

- Meditation
- Bible study
- Yoga
- Tai Chi
- Reflective coloring
- Balancing a checkbook
- Knitting and sewing
- Fitness Center
- Various speakers
- Interview and resume writing
