During this week’s Spring Writers’ Showcase, members of the Creative Writing Club had the opportunity to read their written works in front of the Saint Joseph Academy community.
The showcase series was developed by the club's leadership team, Seniors Peyton Bender, Mary Lepore, Alyssa Rosas and Miriam Saab. The showcase launched this year to give student writers an opportunity to present their works in person and included a Fall Writers' Showcase in November 2021.
The Creative Writing Club’s leadership team planned and organized every detail, from scheduling student readers, writing announcements, and providing refreshments to make it a true celebration of students’ voices. Senior Mary Lepore emceed the event. Six students presented their written works, which included some in-class assignments, as well as works authored on their own time.
The event ended with Co-moderators Mrs. Becky McNulty and Mrs. Keri Grady gifting journals to the senior members so they could continue writing the next chapter of their stories.
Co-moderator and Instructional Librarian Mrs. Becky Synk shared, ”I was so moved by the talent and confidence I saw in each of the student readers. Some of these students started their creative writing journey as Freshmen on Saint Joseph Academy’s PenOhio team, some of them have studied creative writing with me, Mrs. Libbey or Mrs. Levine, and others are just beginning to share their work with the SJA community. It's so inspiring to witness each writer's gifts and watch them develop their voices and artistic visions!”
