Mark Your Calendars for All-School Test Day - October 12
Wednesday, October 12 is an All-School Test Day at Saint Joseph Academy.
Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 will take standardized assessments (outlined below), while the Seniors will use this day for college planning.
Freshmen will be taking the PreACT. The new PreACT simulates the ACT testing experience. The PreACT score and predicted ACT score ranges align with the ACT 1-36 scale. Subjects include English, math, reading and science. The test also includes an Interest Inventory. The results of the Interest Inventory will give students a personalized view of interests with college and career alignment.
Additionally, the Global Competency Aptitude Assessment (GCAA®) will be given after the PreACT. The GCAA® is a comprehensive measure of global readiness, connecting directly to the Global Competencies established worldwide. Acquiring these skills can increase a student's future employment possibilities and positively impact her interpersonal and intercultural relationships. As Freshmen, students take this assessment during their first semester, and the results will serve as a baseline measure of their current abilities as related to the Global Competencies. Students will take this evaluation again during the second semester of senior year, and the comparative results between these two assessments will demonstrate their overall growth in the area of the Global Competencies during their time as students within our school community.
Sophomores and Juniors will be taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Juniors taking the PSAT/NMSQT and who meet published entry requirements may enter the National Merit Scholarship Program conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®). The PSAT/NMSQT assessment measures the reading, writing and language and math skills students need for college. After the test, students will receive feedback on how ready they are for college, career and for 20 plus Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses.
Counselors will meet with all students to explain and review test formats and scoring. When the test results arrive, counselors will again meet with students to interpret their individual scores.
Please review the approximate dismissal times as you arrange transportation for your daughter. Freshmen will be dismissed at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sophomores and Juniors will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. (noon). The Dining Hall will be closed on all-school testing day.
At Saint Joseph Academy, we believe it is important to measure academic development to make certain that students are prepared for each step along their educational journey. Please encourage your daughter to come well-rested and prepared to do her best on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
