Shakespeare Club Members Compete in Annual Shakespeare Competition

In preparation for the annual English Speaking Union’s National Shakespeare Competition, members of the Shakespeare Club compete at the local level of the competition by selecting, analyzing, memorizing and performing a monologue from one of Shakespeare's plays.
A winner and runner-up are selected from the local level to compete at the regional level, where, in addition to their monologues, students also select and perform one of Shakespeare's sonnets. The winner of the regional competition goes on to compete at the national level in New York City.

This year, three students competed in our local level competition: Lainey Rambert '23, Nina Harris '25, and Shakespeare Club Co-President Emma Welch '23 (pictured L-R in the photo). Lainey was the first-place winner as Ophelia from Hamlet, Emma was runner-up as Portia from Julius Caesar and Nina received an honorable mention as the porter from Macbeth. Lainey and Emma will compete in the regional competition on Saturday, February 18 at Shaker Heights High School.

Congratulations, Lainey, Emma and Nina on your hard work!
