Sharing Compassion, Building Relationships

On Monday, students, President Mrs. Kathryn Purcell, CORE Ministry Member Mrs. Megan Wackerly and Mr. Matthew Hils P'26 participated in a Labre Ministry run in Cleveland.
Labre Ministry offers friendship, food and resources to various unhoused community members in the Cleveland area. On the second Monday of each month, members of the Labre Ministry Club load up the Jaguar Van with resources such as food, water, clothing, blankets, flashlights, toiletries, etc., and travel to 14 different stops on the near west side of Cleveland and see many of the same faces each month.

“The experience was like nothing else I had ever done, from preparing the goods to loading up the Jaguar Van to giving out supplies; it was just a very active and social event,” Catherine Yang ’28 shared about her first Labre Ministry run. Catherine decided to join Monday’s run after hearing great things about the program. “It was an eye opener to witness all of the people's smiles, their conversations and what had led them to their point in life. I think that everyone should get the chance to participate in the Labre Ministry because it really shows us just how different everyone’s life can be and how many also stay positive even with some of their conditions. I genuinely thought that the run was very eye opening and it taught me so much that a textbook couldn’t have done.”

Since the beginning of the school year, over 18 new students have shown interest in joining the Labre Ministry Club and/or attending runs. There are also six student leaders helping the program run smoothly.
