Catherine Hilow ’21 & Maya Johnson ’21 Earn Top Honors in Division I Athletics
Two Saint Joseph Academy alumnae are making major waves in the world of Division I athletics, both on the field, water and in the classroom!
Catherine Hilow ’21 (daughter of Judy Ghazoul Hilow ’81 and sister of Elizabeth Hilow ’06 and Eleanor Hilow Andreani ’08) recently wrapped up a standout rowing career at Lehigh University. As a three-time team captain, Catherine was recognized with multiple honors throughout her four years, including seven Faculty Athletics Council Awards, four Dean’s List selections and three Patriot League Honor Roll nods. She was named to the 2025 Academic All-Patriot League Team and earned a spot on the Academic All-District Team, recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for both academic and athletic excellence.
Catherine also received the Lehigh Women’s Rowing Coaches Award and was honored with Lehigh’s Sportsmanship Award at the 2025 Convocation. This award is presented to one graduating student-athlete across all sports who exemplifies ethical conduct, fair play and good citizenship. We are proud to celebrate Catherine’s achievements and look forward to what comes next for this exceptional Jaguar. Click here to read more about Catherine.
Maya Johnson ’21 is returning for her redshirt senior season at Belmont University after withdrawing from the transfer portal, citing her love for Belmont’s academic and athletic environment. A star pitcher, Maya led all of Division I last season with 366 strikeouts and finished with a 24–6 record and a 1.52 ERA. She was named to three All-America teams, received Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year and helped Belmont win its first conference championship and advance to the NCAA tournament.
Diagnosed with lupus in high school, Maya has faced every challenge with determination. After transferring from the University of Pittsburgh, she became Belmont’s all-time strikeouts leader and will now pursue her doctorate in nursing through a new, flexible online program while continuing to compete at the highest level. Whether in the water or on the mound, Jags like Catherine and Maya continue to show the world what it means to be women of faith and wisdom. We’re cheering them on as they chase even bigger dreams!
