Cheryl Hagan O'Malley '77 named the 2016 Distinguished Alumna
We are pleased and honored to announce that Cheryl Hagan O'Malley '77, MSN, BA, RN, CMSRN, has been named SJA's 2016 Distinguished Alumna! Cheryl will be honored on Saturday, February 20, at SJA's annual gala, "Celebrate the Academy."
Cheryl was recently named Vice President, Medical-Surgical Services, at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. For the past two years, she has served as Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer for St. John Medical Center. In that role, Cheryl was responsible for creating a nursing environment that fostered collaboration, partnering with physicians to create a smooth workflow and ensuring that nursing standards are upheld.
Her empathy and passion for serving the dear neighbor helped her rise quickly at Fairview Hospital over six years, from labor and delivery nurse, to Director of Nursing Operations, Director of Medical/Surgical Nursing, and Senior Director of Patient Care Services. In total, she advocated for and served patients in the Cleveland Clinic Health System for 20 years.
Cheryl, sister of Kellie Hagan King '78 and the late Lisa Hagan Berry '81, has more than 30 years of clinical experience and also served as director of critical care and emergency services at Lake Health System, Lake County, Ohio.
"Cheryl's journey truly reflects the impact that Saint Joseph Academy has had on her growth and development," shared her brother, Judge Brian F. Hagan of the Rocky River Municipal Court. "Cheryl emulates the charitable nature of 'giving back' to this institution and the community."
In an example of living a life of compassionate leadership, Cheryl has played an integral role in helping SJA implement our Health Sciences Honors Program, now in its second year. In addition to providing mentoring, she has provided invaluable advice to students and faculty on creating a new generation of empathetic, compassionate health science leaders.
Also, as a founding trustee of the Lisa Hagan Berry '81 Endowed Memorial Scholarship named after her late sister, Cheryl has been instrumental in helping others benefit from an SJA education.
"We are honored to have Cheryl join the list of Distinguished Alumnae who embody the highest ideals of Saint Joseph Academy and our founders, the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Joseph," shared President Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis '71. "We hope you will join us at 'Celebrate the Academy' to honor this alumna."
