For more than 127 years, Saint Joseph Academy has provided a faith-filled environment where young women are empowered to flourish and broaden their horizons as leaders who value their minds, their faith and the dear neighbor.
Saint Joseph Academy, the only all-girls Catholic high school in the city of Cleveland, is rooted in the spirituality of our founding sponsors, the Congregation of St. Joseph. Since the establishment of Saint Joseph Academy in 1890, 30 years before women were given the right to vote, the sisters’ commitment to the education of young women has inspired us to provide each student who walks through our doors with every possible opportunity for academic excellence and personal growth.
Our groundbreaking initiatives such as the Health Sciences Honors Program, a variety of engineering courses and a newly created Makerspace are a few examples of the ways students are encouraged to push themselves to new heights and apply critical thinking skills. Other resources includes a 1:1 digital environment, a state-of-the-art biology lab and Anatomage Table. The Class of 2017 reflects the long-term benefits of initiatives, resources and new technologies, with 97 percent of the graduates advancing their studies at top universities and colleges. That same senior class was awarded $18.9 million in merit-based scholarships.
Saint Joseph Academy is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, a gold standard learning program that directly supports the mission of Saint Joseph Academy though its emphasis on relationships, critical thinking, collaboration, service, reflection and student-centered learning. The application of this program to our curriculum will have a noticeable positive impact on the entire school community by reinforcing a global context of learning and molding students who are committed to fostering the development of a more peaceful, just and unified world.
Each young woman is empowered to discover and pursue her passions. Students explore careers paths by spending three days alongside a professional in a field of interest during our Junior Professional Shadowing Program. We also encourage our young women to “serve the dear neighbor” and give back to their communities. Although each student is required to complete 20 hours of service each academic year, many go above and beyond this requirement due to a deep sense of compassion and empathy for others. As result, the entire student body completes more than 26,000 service hours annually.
The “Saint Joseph Academy difference” is our commitment to educating young women in an environment that allows them to express their unique selves and achieve full academic potential, while fostering love and unity with God and all creation. Each school year, we select a theme that reflects an element of the charism or spirituality of the Sisters of St. Joseph. This year’s theme is “Practice Empathetic Justice.” In addition, we offer four years of spiritual development that enable our students to embody the qualities of the “Character of a Saint Joseph Graduate,
” a formalization of the philosophy that has guided the Academy since its founding.
When young women graduate from Saint Joseph Academy, the rest of their lives are forever deeply influenced by the charism of the Congregation of St. Joseph.
Come explore the difference for yourself. I welcome the opportunity to meet you, as a prospective student, parent, alumna, or friend of the Academy.
We are not just an all-girls school. We are an all kinds of girls school.
Sursum corda! Lift up your hearts!
