Mrs. Tina Marie Plesca

Department: World Languages Department. Mrs. Plesca teaches Spanish 2 and Honors Spanish 4. She is also an advisor for Freshman Advisory and a moderator for the Cosmetics Club, Italian Club and Spanish Club.

How long have you been teaching at the Academy?: Mrs. Plesca has been teaching for 8 years at the Academy.

Why did you want to become a teacher?: “I wanted to become a teacher because, as a young student, I struggled with learning,” Mrs. Plesca shared. “A dedicated fifth-grade teacher took extra time to help me understand my potential, which transformed my educational journey. She made learning fun, and she supported every single student in her classroom. I wanted to help students, just as I saw her helping my classmates and me. It is a challenging job that requires hard work, dedication and patience, but I also love what I do. After 25 years of teaching, I would say I am lucky to do the thing that I really love to do, and I get to share culture and language here at such a great place!”

What do you enjoy most about the Academy?: “It is hard to say just one thing that I enjoy most, so I have to give a small list of 3,” Mrs. Plesca shared.
  • The students: The students at SJA are the most amazing group of girls. I am grateful to work with them.
  • The faculty and staff: We have a very dedicated faculty and staff who work very hard and who are passionate about this school. They make this place not only a place to learn, but a place to truly call home. They are absolutely amazing.
  • The beautiful campus: I love walking the grounds, seeing the students eating lunch outside on a warm day, or taking a class outside. It is truly a gift and blessing.

What is your favorite tradition at the Academy?: Mrs. Plesca shared the following, “At SJA, we are truly a community of traditions, and I love them all. If I had to pick one, I love the “Walk of the Roses” the most. The “Walk of the Roses” is such a beautiful, deeply meaningful graduation ceremony. As we process down Rocky River Drive, I am touched by how special the tradition is and how very proud I am to be a part of this school. I am most proud of our students and their achievements. It is amazing to see the students in their white gowns, holding their bouquets of red roses, with the community cheering. I do not know of many other high schools that have such a unique and special tradition with community support, pride and a beautiful collective joy.”
