Accomplishments: Kennedy will be spending the summer in Taiwan doing community service projects as part of the National Security Language Initiative for Youth.
The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs that provides “scholarship programs to American high school students to study critical languages and the regions in which these languages are spoken, sparking a lifetime interest that carries through their education and careers.”
Kennedy’s passion for learning Chinese, as well as wanting to pursue a future career in international law inspired her to apply for the scholarship program. “Immersion is one of the largest factors in learning a new language, which further motivated me to apply for the scholarship,” Kennedy shared. “Also, just an overall love for other cultures, languages, and history, and the preservation of these things motivated me.”
