Accomplishments: During the summer, Madeline attended a two-week genetics class at Brown University through the Summer@Brown program.
“I chose the genetics class at the Summer@Brown program amongst others because it was taught by a top researcher in the genetics field who had great teaching experience,” Madeline shared.
Madeline’s class was three hours each day. “The classes were a mixture of direct lectures and collaborative group work, culminating in a final presentation and research paper which we submitted at the conclusion of the course,” Madeline shared. “Topics that we learned ranged from classical genetics to modern CRISPR technologies and ethical debates.” When Madeline was not in class, she was able to explore Providence and the surrounding area.
Madeline shared the following, “My favorite part of the program was getting to meet people from all over the world who had the same interests as I did, and being able to forge friendships with people I would have never met otherwise.”
Activities and Interests: At Saint Joseph Academy, Madeline is an Academy Ambassador, Peer Tutor, co-editor of the Jaguar Beat, and a member of the Tennis team, Health Science Honors Program and the National Honor Society.
What is your favorite part about being a member of the Saint Joseph Academy community?: Madeline shared, “My favorite part of being a member of the Saint Joseph Academy community is the sisterhood that you become a part of as a student here.”
Future Career Plans: Madeline plans to major in History or Government and pursue a pre-law track.
