Margaret Sweeney '03 Named Crain's Cleveland Business "40 Under 40" Recipient
Congratulations to Margaret Sweeney ’03 for being honored as a 2020 recipient of Crain’s Cleveland Business’ “40 Under 40” awards.
Since September 2012, Margaret has served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Ohio.
In her current position as Lead Strike Force Attorney, Margaret is responsible for supervising and managing Cleveland’s Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Strike Force including collaborating with multiple federal agencies, state and local law enforcement officers, and quarterly statistical reporting to the national OCDETF Program in Washington, D.C.
Margaret represents the United States in prosecutions of large-scale, multi-jurisdictional drug trafficking, money laundering organizations and other federal narcotics violations in the United States District Court. Margaret manages complex drug trafficking investigations, including managing the execution of Title III wire interceptions. She prosecutes multi-defendant complex criminal drug trafficking organizations and physicians who are illegally diverting controlled substances.
In 2019, she was awarded Assistant U.S. Attorney of the Year for the Cleveland U.S Attorney’s office. Margaret presented at the 2018 National District Attorney’s Association Conference, in Cleveland and serves as the Co-Chair of the Summer Law Clerk Program.
Margaret is actively involved with Saint Joseph Academy, serving as a member of the Board of Directors, a committee member of the annual golf classic and was recognized as one of the Academy’s inaugural “25 Under 35” award honorees. Margaret has been welcomed back as a guest speaker for the Academy’s “Women Leading in the 21st Century” class on several occasions, is an annual speaker at the Women’s Leadership Symposium and regularly hosts students during a three-day career immersion program, Junior Professional Shadowing.
