Students Celebrate Black History Month Prayer Service

In February, students led in-person and virtual prayer services honoring Black History Month.
During this service, students paid tribute to civil rights activists, including Rosa Parks, Barbara Jordan, Marian Wright Edelman, Sister Thea Bowman, Martin Luther King, Jr., Maya Angelou and Alice Walker. The group, led by CORE Ministry teacher Ms. Amy Lashutka, interceded on behalf of St. Josephine Bakhita, patron of trafficking and slavery victims.

The prayer service prayed for the human dignity of all people of color, the common good, seeing and responding to poverty, rights and responsibilities, fair working conditions, stewardship of creation and to create justice and peace for all. The service ended in a poem from Langston Hughes.
